Why Ávila is a great choice for the ecotourist
The province of Ávila has many places to enjoy in contact with nature and practice all kinds of adventure and ecotourism activities.

The nature of Ávila is beautiful and surprising; and, however, to a large extent, still unknown. In the different landscapes and protected spaces, outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy hiking trails, wildlife observation, ornithological tourism or micoturismo. But also of more extreme activities.

The incredible landscape of the Sierra de Gredos is one of the best places to practice activities in nature in Ávila. Modeled by ancient glaciers, this mountain range offers endless options for hiking and biking during spring and summer.

It is also a good destination to devote to ornithological observations; with small prominent species such as the bluethroat nightingale or the gardener scribe. And, if winter is your thing, do not miss the excursions made with snowshoes or an exciting ascent to the Almanzor peak, the highest in the central system. Of course, always with the help of a local guide.
Rural and sustainable tourism in Ávila
Of the same activities can be enjoyed in other places of Ávila. The Tiétar Valley, which marks the limit of the province with Toledo, is one of the most beautiful of Ávila thanks to the color it takes with the flowering of the cherry trees. Hiking and ecotourism in this place will make you feel immersed in a space full of magic and history. In addition, beyond the river bed, in the Tiétar Valley you can practice other adventure activities, such as rock climbing.

You can also enjoy nature activities in Ávila in the mountains of La Paramera and Serrota. Between its high summits, three outstanding rivers of the province have their birth: the Alberche, the Corneja and the Adaja. The descent of the Alberche river by kayak is one of the most refreshing and fun activities you can do in Ávila during the summer.

If you are not yet prepared for the whitewater, you can also enjoy kayaking in the Burguillo reservoir, in the basin of the same river. Near this, is the Port of Casillas, from which you can see the entire Iruelas Valley. As an area declared as ZEPA (Special Protection Area for Birds) you can also engage in birding or bird watching activities.
