There numerous tropical forests and natural reserves in Costa Rica. If you have chosen to visit the Arenal Volcano National Park, situated in the North of the island, you will have a chance to observe one of the most loved animal of our country - the sloth.


La Fortuna - the habitat of the sloths


The area of La Fortuna is an ideal place to observe sloths which catch our attention with their tenderness and peculiar slow behavior. Their lifestyle is to live a stress free life which we surely envied at some point of our lives. This area is privileged due to its warm climate and availability of food for the sloths. Did you know they are more active during the night than during the day?


The tour


The tour will start with a pick up from your hotel and will later continue to the Area of Sloths, a small ecological project of the local family, only 5 minutes away from La Fortuna. Here we will walk for approximately 2 hours while surrounded by the local vegetation and accompanied by a river that borders the property. We will have a chance to discover the trees of Guarumo, the favorite food of sloths.

You will be accompanied by our expert guides who can tell you everything about sloths and this magnificent tropical forest. Sloths are solitary animals. With a bit of luck we can see two kinds of sloths: the two and free-fingered sloth. All of the activity is carried out in a sustainable way, respecting their natural habitat to the maximum. At the end of this natural experience we will take you back to your hotel.
