Pontevedra, the province that together with Ourense is the northern border of Portugal, has much to teach the hiker. The natural resources of this area are perfect for a fantastic day of ecotourism in Pontevedra: the Natural Park of Xunqueira de Alba or the Rías Baixas, which occupy almost the entire province, are two of its most outstanding enclaves.

 

Among the activities in nature that can be done in Pontevedra, navigation stands out. It is not surprising if we take into account that on its coast there are landscapes as surprising as the National Park of the Atlantic Islands. Formed by four small archipelagos (Cíes, Ons, Sálvora and Cortegada), it keeps some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and attracts thousands of visitors every day.

 

But, in addition, this coast offers many possibilities for active tourism in Pontevedra. In spite of its steep relief, all along are quiet and peaceful beaches that, together with the mild climate that prevails, allow activities such as kite surfing, diving or surfing.

Already in the interior, there are other natural areas of great interest that offer many possibilities for fun. In the Natural Park of Monte Aloya, for example, it is common to go hiking or cycling. More than 10 kilometers of trails cross its territory, some that pass through important archaeological remains or that take you to the highest peaks of the park.

 

Although in Pontevedra, most of the routes are articulated around the rivers. Next to the largest, the Miño, you will find relaxing trails, beautiful waterfalls and windmills. In Silleda, the waterfalls of the Toxa River is another privileged enclave in which to lose oneself and find oneself surrounded by the sound of the water and the luxuriance of the forest.

 

More adventure activities are offered in places like O Grove, Sanxenxo, Baiona or Tiu. The classic hiking can be added canyoning, consisting of the descent of canyons or water courses, such as that practiced in the river Almofrei; or some air sports such as paragliding or flying in aeroligero.
