It does not have the portion of the Pyrenees that its northern sisters enjoy; But still Tarragona, the southernmost of the Catalan provinces, has a beautiful natural environment and many options to enjoy the outdoors.

 

Although many of its visitors opt for it thanks to its cultural heritage and the beaches of the Costa Dorada, the truth is that there is much more to discover. And a good way to do it is practicing activities in nature in Tarragona.

 

In the Natural Park of the Sierra del Montsant, and in the surrounding mountains (such as Prades), you will find many options to enjoy them. These places of unique geological characteristics are perfect for hiking, climbing, canyoning or horse riding. In this area there is also the Siurana reservoir, where you can do water activities, such as kayak routes.

 

Of course, you can also enjoy these at sea. The beaches of the Costa Dorada are not just good for a dip. In addition, they allow to do many activities. Make outings in kayak or sail; riding on the waves, surfing or kitesurfing, or diving under the waters while scuba diving are some examples.

Since you are on the coast, if you continue to the south of the province without separating from the sea, you will reach the Delta del Ebro, another Natural Park of great beauty. It stands out for its tranquility and its ecological interest. Above all, it is a magnificent space to devote to bird watching, given the number of species of this family that exist.

 

The Natural Park dels Ports is also a good idea to do activities in nature in Tarragona. There you can make excursions for the observation of wild fauna (highlights the Spanish goat) and combine them with more intense activities, such as caving or climbing.

 

Finally, the proposals for long-distance hiking routes are also interesting. The best known is the Cistercian Route, which runs through the province connecting three medieval monasteries: the Santes Creus, the Poblet (declared a World Heritage Site) and the Vallbona de les Monges.

 

Other routes, such as those in the Priorat or Montblanc regions, will also serve to discover nature and the cultural legacy of a territory full of surprises.
