Outdoor activities in Sevilla: Discover a hidden gem in Andalucia's natural heart
Seville is the Giralda, and the Torre del Oro, and even the Sánchez-Pizjuán for many of those who visit it. For others, Seville is light and water, that of the Guadalquivir that crosses it. And it is, above all, nature, for those who can not understand talking about this province without looking beyond their cities.

A little away from the capital, the province of Seville hides natural landscapes of incredible beauty and incalculable ecological value. Landscapes full of light, where to reconcile with life and the environment. And where to enjoy a wide variety of outdoor activities, from quiet hiking trails to daring options only for the more adventurous.

If we talk about nature in Seville , at the moment the Doñana National Park comes to mind. A place of unique biodiversity, where many animal and plant species find their home; some in danger of extinction, like the Iberian lynx. The options to visit it are many (routes on foot, by bicycle or in 4x4), being the star activity the bird sighting, and finding multiple observatories, for example, in the Dehesa below.

The Sierra Norte is also a key place for nature and adventure activities in Seville . As part of the Sierra Morena, it is a mountainous landscape of Mediterranean forests and meadows, ideal for unhurried walking, either on foot or by bicycle. One of the most representative places of the Natural Park is Cerro del Hierro, a former mining site that is used today mainly for adventure activities such as climbing.

Also in Sierra Morena, the Green Corridor of Guadiamar is born. For 70 kilometers, the greenway of the Corridor, passes by poplars, elms, ash, willows and cereal lands until approaching the marshes of Doñana. A path that can be traveled on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. We will find vestiges of ancient cultures, such as hot springs and windmills, and a wonderful fauna.

Other routes and greenways extend throughout the province, making Seville a unique place for hikers and nature lovers. A place that captivates for its beauty and its simplicity.
6 Reasons to enjoy ecotourism in Sevilla
# 1 A unique protected space in Europe

Halfway between the provinces of Huelva, Seville and Cádiz, Doñana is the most important wetland in Spain and one of the most important in Europe. Its biodiversity, unique in the continent, has made it worthy of a number of protection figures: Biosphere Reserve, Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA), Special Conservation Zone (SAC), World Heritage Site, etc.

In spite of everything, the Park has had times of bad luck throughout history, some very recent. Maybe that's why it's more important than ever to lend our support and pay a visit. Do not miss the opportunity to walk through its dunes, get to know its marshlands and enjoy the nature that it offers.

# 2 No coast, but ... no water?

Of course not. Apart from the Guadalquivir River, which runs through Seville, many other rivers and reservoirs extend their geography, making water an omnipresent element in the province. Thus, aquatic activities are a clear possibility in the territory. Activities such as the descent of the Calzadillas ravine, in Almadén de la Plata, or canoeing in one of the many reservoirs in the province, such as the Agrio reservoir.

# 3 Endless roads to discover

The variety of hiking trails that exist in Seville is immense. From simple routes for beginners, such as the green routes of the Sierra Norte or the Ronquillo, to more complex routes for the more experienced, such as the La Mancha del Berrocal trail, in Almadén de la Plata, or the Las Laderas trail, in Cazalla of the Sierra.

There are routes full of history, in which the heritage plays a role as important as the nature that surrounds it. They are the case of the Cerro del hierro path, in San Nicolás del Puerto, or the Cork Mill of Cazalla de la Sierra. And routes that offer an extra (a session of ornithological tourism, for example), like the one you can do in the Viar river canyon.

# 4 Routes for riding or pedaling

The best thing, however, is that many of these roads can not only be done on foot. The length of the greenways, normally greater than that of other hiking routes, and the uniform and uneven terrain, make them perfect for a ride on horseback or by bicycle. The greenway of the Campiña, for example, is a route especially recommended for this type of excursion. An even more exciting adventure!

# 5 An exceptional fauna

Apart from Doñana, a wetland inhabited by more than 120 species of birds, as well as the endangered Iberian lynx and the imperial eagle; there are many other spaces in Seville where you can enjoy wildlife sightings. In the Sierra Norte, deer and wild boar are abundant, although the most representative group is, again, that of birds. Raptors like the black vulture and the imperial eagle delight the most seasoned lovers of ornithology.

# 6 Outdoor sport

And it's not just about walking or pedaling. In Seville you have options for all tastes. Paddling in its reservoirs, doing canyoning or climbing ... And all in a spectacular natural environment. Can you imagine climbing on a Natural Monument? You can do it at Cerro del Hierro, just an hour from the capital. Say goodbye to the gym and encourage yourself to exercise outside those four walls. You will be happy
