Segovia is a province of large protected areas that offer endless possibilities to discover and enjoy nature.

 

From the wide Castilian plains to the rugged landscapes of the Sierra de Guadarrama; passing through valleys, holm oaks and pine forests, banks or cliffs. All of them give you the opportunity to practice a wide variety of activities in nature in Segovia.

 

Among the most recognized places of Segovia, is the National Park of the Sierra de Guadarrama, which borders the Community of Madrid. Countless tracks and trails cross the park, allowing visitors to travel hundreds of kilometers inside, both on foot and on horseback.

You can also enjoy hiking in the Natural Park of Hoces del Duratón. The Duraton River, on its way through the northeast of Segovia, fits into a deep gorge in which numerous pairs of griffon vultures live. Both they and the golden eagles, peregrine falcons and Egyptian vultures will be your companions if you practice canoeing in this river. Of course, you can enjoy all these species with a day of birding in this space.

 

Kayaking can also be done in the Pontón Reservoir (at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama) or in the Sickles of the Riaza River, another important Natural Park of the province. Although of reliefs less steep than the Hoces del Duratón, this park has great geological richness. The different paths will allow you to enjoy hiking and geotourism in a unique way.

 

On the other hand, in winter, lovers of nature activities in Segovia, go to the ski resorts of Puerto de Navacerrada and La Pinilla. The first one is only 30 kilometers from the capital. While the second one is closer to Riaza. Both offer good opportunities to enjoy snow sports.

 

The offer of active tourism activities is completed with balloon rides. A booming activity that allows you to enjoy incredible views of the plains and the Sierra de Guadarrama, and that even those who are not accustomed to aerial activities can enjoy.
