Why Murcia is a key destination for sustainable tourists
Embedded between the Valencian Levante, the plains of La Mancha and southern Andalusia; Murcia retains a little of each of its neighbors in its landscapes and traditions. All this, of course, mixed with own dyes.

Little is known about this small province; and, nevertheless, it conserves an enviable nature. The wealth in natural areas of Murcia is worth mentioning. Both on the coast and inland, we find places of great interest that make us think of two regions: one that looks towards the sea and the other inland.

What is clear is that, between one and another, the variety of ecotourism activities to do in Murcia is immense.

In the lower right corner of the province, the Natural Park of Calblanque is divided into a series of small coves bathed in Mediterranean light. Fossil dunes and dark cliffs complete a surprising landscape that is also home to multiple birds. A unique space to be traveled on foot or on horseback, and in which to enjoy with all the senses.

Very close to there, Cabo de Palos is one of the richest marine ecosystems in the Mediterranean. Its funds are a paradise for lovers of snorkeling or scuba diving. If you like birds, then you should go to the salt flats and sandbanks of San Pedro del Pinatar, a little further north.

Already in the interior, the Ricote Valley, on the banks of the Segura River, gives rise to a landscape of terraces and orchards in which nature and history come together to enchant the traveler. A network of paths and paths cross the valley, facilitating its enjoyment to those who travel by bicycle or hiking.

Similarly, the Sierra Espuña, which was the first protected area in the region, opens like a green oasis in the parched lands of the southeast. It is also an ideal place for hiking, since it has multiple trails. Some of them, take you to know the famous snow pits that served in the sixteenth century to collect the first snow and create ice with them.

Many other places with the same charm make up the Murcian geography. At the risk of forgetting to mention them, it is best to invite you to visit this beautiful province and discover them on your own.
Reasons to enjoy rural and sustainable tourism in Murcia
You can easily walk or bike

Murcia is perfect for practicing sports in contact with nature. Hiking is always one of the most requested. The roads in Murcia can take you to ascend to high peaks or walk for hours along the coast. There are various lengths and levels, and they cross the province from end to end to help you get to know it both on foot and by bicycle.

It is full of peaks and caves to discover

The most adventurous find in Murcia a multitude of summits (many of them with more than 1000 meters high) to enjoy climbing. There are also some ferrata routes, such as the one found in the Sierra de Lugar. In addition, underground, there are numerous caves and waiting to be discovered. Some hide interesting treasures, like samples of rock art.

It has two seas on one coast

The Mediterranean and the Mar Menor face one another, expanding the possibilities of practicing water sports. The Mar Menor, a large inland sea of calm waters, is the perfect setting for activities such as sailing, kite surfing or canoeing. To all this we must add the offer of ecotourism guided tours by boat to see the islands and islets around, full of natural wealth.

Its seabed is impressive

If it's nice to see this coast from the outside, immersing yourself in it leaves you speechless. Places like the Cabo de Palos, the Grosa island or the islet of Farallón, are protected areas of the Mediterranean thanks to their extensive meadows of oceanic Posidonia. In addition, diving you will also find old submerged ships, so that you let your imagination fly between stories of pirates and sunken treasures.

Descending their rivers is an adventure

The best known of the rivers that cross the province of Murcia to practice adventure sports is the Segura River. On its way through the towns of Calasparra or Cieza, the Segura River crosses impressive landscapes, such as the one of the Almadenes Canyon. In addition to putting your kayak or raft raft to the test, you can enjoy views of protected landscapes of great beauty.

It can also be seen from the air

There is no greater sensation than taking the flight. The geography of Murcia allows you to practice a good number of aerial activities such as paragliding, hang gliding, balloon rides or gliding. Enjoying its landscapes from the air will give you a unique and unforgettable perspective. And, if yours is emotion without limits, you can not resist a parachute jump. Pure adrenaline!
