The Galician province bordering Asturias has much to offer the visitor beyond its stunning beaches. It is also nature. But not a monotonous nature, but a nature full of contrasts, where the adventurer can go from a steep mountain typical of Galicia to a plain, or go through river courses that hide great stories. All these resources make it really easy to carry out activities in the nature of Lugo.

 

That is the case of the Ribeira Sacra, of which the southern zone of Lugo is part. This natural border between the provinces of Lugo and Ourense seems the ideal place to do some nautical activity and contemplate the impressive canyons of the Sil and Miño river, besides seeing one of the largest concentrations of medieval monasteries and churches in Europe.

 

The coast of this province is part of the Rías Altas in its entirety, so you can also perform various water activities, both on the river and in the sea. The beach of Las Catedrales is also a point of reference in Lugo. Named for the natural cathedral sculpted over time by the hours is a place that you have to see when the tide goes down. No doubt you will not see anything like it.

Moving away from the water, we find the Sierra de los Ancares. Shared with Leon, this mountain range is a Biosphere Reserve, and is perfect for walking or on foot or by mountain bike. Its multiple routes and trails will take you to discover one of the most beautiful natural landscapes and that best maintain the traditional lifestyle of Galician mountaineers in the province. There you will find pallozas, horreos and old tietos that will transport you long ago.

 

It is also a fantastic place to practice birdwatching or bird watching. You can meet with your binoculars the capercaillie, one of the most representative birds of this mountain range. Others that usually inhabit their mountains are the golden eagle or the peregrine falcon.

 

Against the position of the mountains, Lugo has the Terra Chá region, a mysterious wonder because it is a great plain in a place where it is not common that there are. In it you will find a collection of rivers and lagoons, so you will also see birds that take it as a resting place in their migration.
