Castilla y León, ecotourism and pure sustainability
Planning a trip can be tedious or the most entertaining in the world. What will it depend on? Of course, the destination you choose (among other things). The problem is that, sometimes, we need help when contrasting the different places we can visit.

A very important question will be to decide what kind of tourism you want to do: adventure tourism, ecotourism, astrotourism ... And, in Spain, the different forms of tourism have been acquiring, over the years, their own name.

You're in luck if your mind wandered around Castilla y León. This autonomous community, partly because of its great extension, partly because of its location, is home to a large number of options when deciding how to invest your free time.

That is, in Castilla y León you do not have to choose the type of tourism to do: you can peck at all a bit.

In León you can choose to visit the beautiful town of Castrillo de los Polvazares, or head towards Caín, a municipality from where one of the best known trails of the Picos de Europa starts: the Cares or Garganta divina route.

Zamora is a land of wine and, therefore, has four Designations of Origin. You have here a golden opportunity to practice wine tourism.

Apart from the city itself, Salamanca has many worthy places to visit, such as the Arribes del Duero Natural Park, whose star element could well be its "Pozo de los Humos" waterfall.

Following the thread of the protection figures, in Palencia you have the option of the Fuentes Carrionas and Fuente Cobre Natural Park and, in Soria, that of the Río Lobos Canyon.

But it is also, if after enjoying nature, you are one of those who like to exploit the gastronomy of the place, it is Segovia where you should go. Just thinking about it already smells like Segovian piglet.

Ávila is committed to accessible tourism, so necessary for all of us to enjoy it. The province has natural monuments, accommodations, restaurants and leisure facilities adapted to the needs of visitors.

In the land of El Cid, Burgos, and Valladolid, you can continue with ecotourism and outings to nature.
6 reasons to enjoy sustainable tourism in Castilla y León
# 1 Discover the Reserve Starlight Gredos Norte, in Ávila

Astrotourism has become fashionable in recent years. To enhance its value, those protective figures have been created for the sky (yes, for the sky) called Starlight Reserves. Wherever there is one, be assured that it will not be the light pollution that prevents you from spending a nighttime evening observing stars.

# 2 Know the main habitat of the Iberian wolf

That magnificent specimen, so loved by Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente, is found in several points of the Spanish geography. However, it is Castilla y León, and its Sierra de la Culebra Natural Area, one of the great foci of habitat for the Iberian wolf. It's just a matter of being on the side of luck, at the right time, to see it.

# 3 The heart of the Camino de Santiago is in Castilla y León

The most famous route in Spain, the Camino de Santiago, crosses horizontally the Castilian-Leonese community. Astorga or Ponferrada are two municipalities that you will have the privilege to visit and to know. It could be that, between landscapes full of greenery and castles, you will get to know the pilgrim who becomes part of your life forever. Friendships sprout where you least expect it.

# 4 Castilla y León: region with the highest number of Unesco World Heritage properties worldwide

This region of Spain has 8 Unesco Heritage assets. And is that from 3 of its cities (Segovia, Salamanca and Avila) to natural areas such as Las Médulas (El Bierzo), and even the Camino de Santiago itself, have this figure of protection. If so much effort has been placed on their protection, it must be because it is really worth visiting.

# 5 Helping the sustainable development of the community

Tourism through the charming towns of Castilla y León, such as La Alberca or Peñaranda de Duero, greatly favors the local and sustainable development of these. Eating in these cozy mountain bars, or sleeping in hostels run by the people of the place will contribute much to the development of these small population centers.

# 6 Adventure sports are also practiced here

How could it be otherwise, Castilla y León also hides fantastic places to practice canyoning or kayaking. In addition, you can also choose to fly over some of the most emblematic cities (such as Segovia) in a balloon, that will be an adventure!
