Very few provinces in Spain have a landscape variety as large as Almería. In a not very wide territory it is possible to go from the virgin beaches of the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata to the summits of Sierra Nevada and the Alpujarras of Almeria. With this, it is not surprising that the variety of activities in nature in Almeria is especially high.

At the top of one of its peaks, the Calar Alto, is the astronomical observatory, for those who like to travel among the stars. Bird lovers, on the other hand, can enjoy a good day of ornithology here, since it is the passage zone for many migratory species.

For these also include the Salinas de San Miguel de Cabo de Gata, an extensive wetland of great ecological value that runs parallel to the coast and in which a good number of waterfowl are found, among which the flamingos stand out. The image of the lagoons dyed pink thanks to these animals is one of the typical prints of this area of ​​the Natural Park.

 

Moving away from the coast again we find one of the most peculiar places in the province of Almeria. Not a mountain this time, but a desert, the Tabernas desert, well known for having been the scene of some films of that film genre known as "spaghetti western". The best way to get to know it is through a mountain bike route or, why not, on horseback, to better immerse yourself in the essence of the seventh art.

 

The offer of ecotourism activities in Almeria is completed with others such as caving or hiking. The first can be done in the Karst de Sorbas, a place crossed by a multitude of chasms and caves that promise a thousand and one adventures. For hiking you do not have to choose, because throughout the province you will find routes and paths ready for you to walk. Roads that pass next to picturesque villages in the Alpujarras, routes along the coast, paths that cross forests and even one that connects the mountains and the sea.
