Choose your activity in Nature

Canyoning in Río Verde: is Río Verde relevant in the canyoning world?
The answer is yes. For lovers of adventure and sport in nature, canyoning is undoubtedly one of the best options that can be found in Spain, and Rio Verde offers an unbeatable environment to practice it.

To do canyoning in Río Verde you must move to Otívar, municipality of the province of Granada. There you will find one of the most impressive ravines to enjoy your new favorite sport. The main characteristic of this ravine is that it has water throughout the year, and the difficulty of overcoming it is really low as long as the flow is not very strong during the rainy season. So it is ideal for those who want to start in this sport.

What will you find in the ravine of the Green River?

The most adventurous fun: going from rappels between 5 and 12 meters, to slides and waterfalls to let out all the accumulated adrenaline and forget all the stress of everyday life.

We swim by crystal clear waters, nature wherever you look, an expert guide and the company that you choose will follow you all the way. The canyoning in Río Verde will be your favorite natural water park in which to practice the descent of ravines.

Located within the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Natural Park , natural limit between the provinces of Malaga and Granada. The mountains of Tejeda and Almijara are those of the Malaga side, in the heart of the Axarquía. Alhama corresponds to the westernmost part of the province of Granada. From the peak of Tejeda you can observe the spectacular views of the Mediterranean coast and the nearby mountains, frequented by hikers and mountaineers.

Before making the descent of the Green River there is a route that takes us through the territory of the Sierra de Almijara , until we reach the karst canyons that constitute the source of the Río Verde. You will have spectacular views of the Almijara massif, you will cross suspension bridges and, following the path, you will find a step used to transport fish from the tropical coast to Granada, the Poyos del Pescado . You can not miss the waterfall of Las Chorreras de los Palos or Petrified Trees Waterfall, where the limestone water has mineralized old trunks and there is a small cave with formations of stalagmites and stalactites. But do not worry, because if you're left wanting to do more caving, even if it's a bit more formal, you have the Cueva de Nerja very close to here.

The Green River is well known in the south of the peninsula for the fun of its journey. It is the meeting point of many fans of canyoning in Spain.

You can get off in 4x4 by the la Cabrerizas lane until the area where the descent of the trail ends, and so you do not have to climb on foot to the road.

All this zone is formed geologically by decomposed dolomitic limestones, in which their ravines drag white sand that form the typical ramblas.

The climate of this almost tropical area and its unique environment make this destination enviable almost all year for the canyoning. And its proximity to Almuñécar makes it very desirable for tourists during vacation time.

The Green River is not only adventure and active tourism, it is also the source of life that irrigates the subtropical crops of cherimoyas, medlars, avocados and mangoes that are the economic sustenance of the municipalities of Otívar, Lentegí, Jete and Almuñécar. In addition, throughout this area there is an intense tradition of beekeeping , which has become a good economic resource for locals by the amount of endemic plant aromatic species, being able to observe the change between the middle mountain vegetation at the beginning and the ribera at the end of the trail.

That you know that very close you have the possibility of practicing other activities. In the reservoir of Bermejales located in the canyons of Arenas del Rey, where you can perform sports such as sailing or canoeing. Or on the beach you can practice snorkeling, diving, paddle surfing or kayaking interpreted at the Cerro Maro Gordo Cliffs Natural Spot, a special and unique place to do scuba diving and contemplate the impressive meadows of Posidonia oceanica and observe important populations of Orange Coral.

Six reasons to practice canyoning in Río Verde
# 1 Natural landscapes

Knowing the nature of a place doing an activity such as canyoning gives you the privilege of enjoying it from within, seeing landscapes that otherwise you could not observe.

Overcoming the obstacles that the geomorphic structures sculpted over time impose on you is priceless.

# 2 Playing sports without realizing it

There are many ways to take care of your health by doing sports. A gym is fine, but how many times have we counted the seconds we have left to fulfill our routine?

Exercise without looking at the clock constantly! You will jump, climb and descend, overcoming obstacles that mother nature puts in front of you.

A challenge that you will surely want to overcome again and again.

# 3 Ideal to share

Many times we want to do some activity in which our friends or relatives can participate, and this is one of them.

But it's not just a perfect plan to do with family or friends, even with your coworkers!

# 4 Fun with water

Of course, with good weather, you want to play outdoors, and more if there is water in between.

The canyoning in Rio Verde has just that: blue water aquatic pools, small waterfalls and many stretches of swim that will refresh your summer.

# 5 Exit the routine

How many times do we want to make a different plan with family or friends? Now you have the ideal opportunity to change your routine and surprise everyone with a new proposal.

The options to carry out the activity are wide, but the moment and the company you choose. So you can get out of the mold and propose a bachelor / a different, take your school group to know nature, participate with your group of companies to strengthen ties of teamwork, or just live an adventure with your family and friends .

# 6 Unique experience

The memory that will remain after doing an activity like this will be for life. It does not matter who you make it with, but how you enjoy it. Surrounding yourself with the magnificent nature of Río Verde and soaking up with whomever you want will always be worth it.
