Activity description
Would you like to discover the wonders of the Cantabrian villages while going on a special tour?

Discover Cantabria

If you concider discovering unique nature landscapes and traditional villages - Cantabria is the best option for you. The Cantabrian Sea, high and steep Cantabrian Mountains and the green meadows that run through the territory will take your breath away.

It is a paradise for those who are looking for an escape to disconnect in nature, surrounded by culture and traditions of the local community. The local villages hold a great artistic and heritage value, as well as many options to take part in ecotourism activities in the surrounding area.

Santillana del Mar

The village Santillana del Mar is one of the nicest villages in Spain and this is not only our personal opinion. In 2013 it was announced as the most beautiful village of Spain. This town receives many tourists and is known for its proximity to the caves of Altamira, its important historical-artistic complex and for being declared as a World Heritage Site.

Come and explore the village of three lies, since it is not saint, nor is it plain or has a sea (Santa means saint, Llana means plain and Mar is a Spanish word for sea.).

The botanical route

The route will cover a distance of 4 km with departure and arrival at Camping of Santillana. During the trip we will explore various typical species of flora, wild as well as decorative, while presenting you their main characteristics as well as some of their medicinal or traditional uses.

As we will advance on the route, we will leave the village behind and get closer to the a karstic zone in which the local flora species are highly conditioned by this type of soil.
Here we can find numerous species of heather and even orchids in spring. The route ascends gently to crown the top of a mountain from which surprising views of the coast of Cantabria and its main mountain systems open up.

Once we finish the route we will make an ointment for burns with beeswax, which everyone can take home as a souvenir.

Come and spend a wonderful day along the beautiful walking trails of Cantabria in the magnificent town of Santillana del Mar.
