A via ferrata is a mountain route that has previously been assembled with several materials like steps, staples, handrails, chains, hanging bridges (Tibetan bridges) and zip lines. In this way, it’s possible to access difficult areas for hikers or people not used to climbing. Safety relies on an steel cable installed in the whole via.
The via ferrata of Valdeón is the first one in a National Park. It’s located in the town of Cordiñanes (León), Picos de Europa, in the area of Peña de Castro and Aguja de María del Carmen, finishing the path at Rienda, which takes to Collado Jermoso.
It has 1,200 meters of route, 300 meters of positive slope over vertical rocky ground, with 600 staples and 1200 meters of wire. It has two exits of 200 and 150 meters respectively. In addition, this infrastructure is complemented by an amazing 35 meter long Tibetan bridge, located 30 meters over río Cares. Amazing!
We offer professional guide service for this activity. There are 5 existing routes, all of them with its guaranteed and exclusive safety measures for ascents in via ferratas.
