Activity description
Seek new adventures in Annapurna, and enjoy this once in a lifetime experience trekking in Nepal!

This short Annapurna Base Camp trek is a very popular route among trekkers. The views we will enjoy on our way to Annapurna Base Camp are amazing. One of the peaks you will see before reaching Doban is Machapuchre or Fish Tail - an amazing peak and also known as the Matterhorn of the Himalayas. Once you start to make your way into the Annapurna Sanctuary, the views offered are, of course, great once again, and at the Base Camp of Annapurna you will be standing right in front of Annapurna, all surrounded by peaks.

Day 1: Landing in Kathmandu

Once you have arrived in Tribhuwan International Airport, our representatives will be there to receive you and transfer you to your hotel. You will get to know everything in detail about this trek. Check into your Kathmandu hotel.

Day 2: Free and arrangement day

Day off. We could do some last-minute shopping for our trekking: trekking gears, canned food and anything you can think of. We could visit the World Heritage Sites such as Kathmandu Durbar Square (this is optional), Pashupati Nath, Swayambu Nath or Boudha Nath among other sites.

Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (820m/2,690ft) 6-7 hours

After a great breakfast, we will travel to the beautiful city of Pokhara, via Prithvi Highway. This great bus ride will be approximately 6 hours long. We will get to see beautiful green hills, dwindling rivers and faraway Himalayans on our way. You’ll be amazed by Pokhara. We can travel around this beautiful lake city in the evening. We’ll stay in a hotel near to the lake in Pokhara.

Day 4: Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul and trek to Ghandruk (1940m/6,364ft) 5-6 hours

Ghandruk is a stunning Gurung village. We will first take a taxi ride for about 2 hours around Nayapul from Pokhara. Our first stop will be at Birethanti, crossing the suspension bridge over the Bhurungdi River. Birethanti is a beautiful village - the trail is flat up till Syauli Bazaar. Leaving the river bank, we will hike to Kimche. From Kimche, the trail ascends towards Ghandruk, crossing Chane.

Day 5: Ghandruk to Sinuwa (2,360m/7,742ft) 5-6 hours

Following the bank of the Modi River, we ascend for some time and then leaving the river behind, we climb towards the huge boulders. Walking past the boulder, we cross the bridge over the Kimrong River and climb a steep trail that will take us to  the Gurung village, Chhomrong, crossing Jhinu Danda. From Chhomrong, we cross the bridge across the Chhomrong river and enjoying the view of bamboo, rhododendron and oak forest, we hike up to Sinuwa.

Day 6: Sinuwa to Deurali (3,230m/10,597ft) 6 hours

We will continue our hike till passing Kuldhigar. Later on, a steep stone staircase will take us to Dobhan, crossing a suspension bridge. We will be surrounded by bamboo, rhododendron and oak forests. A steep climb follows, through the valley towards Himalaya and Hinku Cave.

Day 7: Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m/13,549ft) 5 hours

On this day we will finally reach the Annapurna base camp. An easy climb on a trail along the Modi River will first take us to Bagar. From Bagar, a rather demanding hike will first take us to the base camp of Machhapuchhre (3,700m). After resting here for about an hour, we will follow a wide trail that leads us to the Annapurna Sanctuary. We then finally reach our destination, the South Annapurna Base Camp, with snow covered peaks.

Day 8: Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo (2,340m/7,677ft) 6 hours

Going downhill through Bagar, Deurali and Dobhan, we will arrive at Bamboo. We will find on our way a  waterfall, a cave, a temple and paths through the forest of rhododendron, oak and bamboo. After walking for about 6 hours, we finally reach the destination of the day: Bamboo.

Day 9: Bamboo to Jhinu Hot Spring (1,780m/5,839ft) 5 hours

We will hike down to the bridge across the Chhomrong River, crossing Sinuwa. We will go over a bridge and enter the beautiful Gurung village, Chhomrong. From Chhomrong, a steep descent will take us to Jhinu Danda. The Jhinu hot spring is 15-20minutes downhill from Jhinu Danda. You can relax your tired muscles and take a relaxing dip in the hot springs.

Day 10: Jhinu Hot Spring to Nayapul and drive to Pokhara (820m/2,690ft) 7 hours

We will cross the bridge over the Modi River, where our trail initially crosses a bamboo forest, which then crosses various small settlements, all decorated with terrace farms and seasonal crops, until reaching Syauli Bazaar. From Syauli Bazaar onwards, the trail is flat until reaching Nayapul. Following this flat trail, we will walk up to Birethanti, crossing the bridge over Bhurungdi River, and walking to Nayapul. We will catch a taxi or a private vehicle at Nayapul, which will take us to Pokhara after about 2 hours ride. We’ll stay the night in Pokhara and our trek ends here.

We signed up for the Khopra ridge trek with Exciting Nepal and thoroughly enjoyed it! Everything was taken care of as part of the package (including airport transfer, accommodation and transport to Pokhara etc.) - all we had to do is show up and enjoy the magnificent scenery :) Basu (guide) was very helpful and attentive throughout. Thanks also to Niraj (porter) for doing the heavy lifting!
