Do you know the Amazon of Peru? Join the adventure and explore the Peruvian jungle.
Peru and the Amazon Rainforest
Come and visit one of the most impressive countries in the world - Peru. It is included among the 17 megadiverse countries worldwide and here you will find different landscapes such as deserts, high peaks or lush forests.
On this trip we will take you to the Amazon Forest of Peru, specifically to the region of Madre Dios. It is one of the most extensive but less populated regiones, since its vast territory is dominated by the lush forest. Its capital, Puerto Maldonado, is the gateway to this wild territory.
The National Park of Manu and the National Reserve of Tambopata
If we would have to name a territory of great wealth and natural value it is the Manu National Park with almost two million hectares and declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
It is an excellent example of great biodiversity of the country, because in less than one hectare you can find up to 250 different types of species.
Another place of great interest and close to the starting point of the tour is the Tambopata National Reserve.
A 3 day tour through the Amazon
Day 1: Puerto Maldonado - Río Tambopata - Posada Amazonas
We will transfer you from the airport to the headquarters of Puerto Maldonado (arrival from Lima or Cusco). We will pick you up at the airport from where we will move to the headquarters of Puerto Maldonado, about 10 minutes away. We will give you the necessary instructions to take into account for the next 3 days while you enjoy your first contact with nature.
Later on we will leave Puerto Maldonado to the port of the Tambopata River (point of entry to the native community of Infierno (Hell)). From here, we will take a boat to Posada Amazonas. The boat trip lasts about 45 minutes and the hotel manager will welcome you upon the arrival. After a walk of 20 minutes from the inn we will reach the Dosel Tower with a height of about 30 meters. The platforms will await us with spectacular views of the vast region and the Tambopata River that meanders through the forest. Among the animals we will encounter toucans, parrots and macaws flying towards the horizon.
Lastly, we will see a presentation about the ecotourism project of Infierno (which is available to see at the hostel every night). And of course we will end the day with a delicious dinner.
Day 2: Tres Chimbadas Lake - Parrot Clay Lick
The day begins with visiting the Tres Chimbadas lake (thirty minutes by boat and 50 minutes from Posada Amazonas). Here we will take a catamaran for a tour along the lake where a family of otters and other wild animals such as the alligator or the hoatzin live.
We will continue with the visit to Parrot Clay Lick, just 20 minutes from the inn. From here we can see dozens of parrots that descend every morning to the riverbank. Among many species: the Mealy and the yellow-headed Amazon, the blue-headed parrot and the dark-headed parakeet.
After lunch, an Ethnobotanical Tour designed by the staff of the Apeape Center awaits us. It is a community organization that produces medicine from forest plants and administers them in their small clinic. They will explain the different medicinal uses and other uses of the selected plants.
Once we are done with the dinner you will have an option of going for a night walk to see the mammals that are most active at this time of the day and are easier to find. It is quite a wonder for animals and nature lovers.
Day 3: Offshoring - Pto. Maldonado
On the last day, we will travel on boat from the inn to the port of the Tambopata River and then to Puerto Maldonado. We will resume our trip along the river and enjoy the spectacular views of the Amazon rainforest.
This will be the end of this great adventure. It will be a guided tour that you will surely enjoy to the fullest and from which you will bring back unforgettable memories.
