Tour across Tuy: The most ancient border of Europe (Galicia and Portugal)

It is a different experience to discover the rich Galician and Portuguese cultures and the traditions that have been preserved through time.

The route will start at the historic town of Tui, where we will walk through its medieval stone streets, witnessing one of the most famous cathedrals in Galicia and recognizing the first Galician villa on the portuguese part of the trail of the famous Camino de Santiago. Here we will have a great opportunity to taste the delicious cakes elaborated in the Convent of the Poor Clares.

Next, we will cross the border walking through the international bridge and arrive to the Portuguese village of Valença do Minho that is attached to Tui. In the past they were two villages coexisting side by side which formed the "eurocuidad" or “euro city”, since each one belonged to a different country. However, they did not get along well, and the proof of that is that we found a huge defensive fortress right in front of their mirror city of Tui. We will walk through this Portuguese town and enjoy its beautiful old town where we will have time to buy a good Port wine.

We will leave Valença do Minho, but before we will stop to walk along the banks of the Miño River, where we will appreciate its spectacular landscape. This path is the walk through which the two villages are linked.

Afterwards, we will visit the old and historical center of Vilanova de la Cerveira. And to finish our fabulous tour we will, with our van, to cross the border again, but this time by sea in a ferry, to get to A Guarda. There we will ascend to Castro de Santa Trega, a settlement from the Iron Age which had more than 3,000 inhabitants at the time. In this place we will see the estuaries, the border, the south of Galicia and the north of Portugal, absolutely incredible views.
