In spite of being a small country it hides a great biodiversity what has caused that every year millions of tourists visit it in search of new experiences and different adventures.

Alajuela and Boca Tapada

The activity will be carried out in the province of Alajuela, located in the north of the country (with the border with Nicaragua), in the Central Valley. Throughout its tropical climate you will find a tropical climate with many species.

For bird watching we will move through Boca Tapada, in the northern lowlands. It is known to be one of the few nesting sites of the Great Green Macaw (Lapa Verde), in danger of extinction. One of the natural enclaves is the Maquenque Ecological Reserve.

The 6 day tour

Day 1: San José and Boca Tapada

Transfer from San José to the northern plains of Costa Rica. You will arrive at your ecological accommodation in the afternoon. You will enjoy 500 hectares of virgin tropical forest with a great variety of flora and fauna.

In Sarapiquí you will make a walk to observe birds in Selva Verde: toucans, large green macaws, wood thrushes, gray-necked racan, sun bird, rufous momoto and hummingbirds with violent crowns, among other birds of the Selva Verde reserve.

Night: Tapada Mouth

Day 2: Tapada Mouth

Although it will be difficult to leave the breakfast area, due to the continuous traffic of toucans, honeycreepers, aracaris, peacocks ... everything can be seen from a few meters away, finally you will walk along the trails of the hotel to look for more birds or another type of fauna that abounds in the tropical jungle and the river near the lodge.

You can even decide to jump in the boat for a very enjoyable ride on the river to see crocodiles and other aquatic wildlife! More than 350 species of birds have been counted in this area.

Night: Tapada Mouth

Caño Negro has an area of 9960 hectares and is one of the most important biological areas of the country and is among the four major wetland areas in the world, which is also a RAMSAR site. It is composed of the Caño Negro lagoon and the Frio river. Visit to the observation tower of the reserve.

This Wildlife Refuge is perhaps the best place to see Jabiru, in danger of extinction, and it is one of the best birding places in Costa Rica. Other common birds for these marshes and herbaceous areas are the yellow-headed vulture, the cranes, the black-necked hawk, the bright ibis, the kingfisher or the yellow-tailed oropendola.

Day of transfer to Upala and Río Celeste, on the outskirts of Tenorio National Park.

Night: Celeste River

Day 5: Río Celeste Waterfall - Tenorio Volcano National Park
