From here we will start traveling in a height of 2720 meters (8923 ft). Crossing the Vilcanota River, we will continue along the route and enjoy beautiful views of the Inca fortress known as Huillca Raccay, the vast Inca of Llactapata (called Patallacta), the Urubamba mountain range that divides the jungle and the beautiful peak of Wakay Willca (known as Verónica) situated at more than 5,800 meters.

The tour for the day will end once we will arrive to the Ayapata camp located one and a half hour away from the Wayllababa village, in the green valley called after the same name. On the first day we will cover about 12 km of route (5 or 6 hours) in total.

Once we will get up at 5:30h, we will start with a steep ascent to the highest pass known as Abra de Warrmihuañusca (the Passage of the dead woman) at 4200m (13779 ft). We will climb to its peak and then descend until we reach Pacaymayu where we will rest.

The day will start at 6h with rich breakfast and then we will start walking with an easy climb to visit the archaeological site of Phuyupatamarca (City of Clouds) and reach the third highest point of the trail (3680 m). From here, the views of the mountains, canyons and surrounding areas are incredible.

Raqchi (Temple of God of Wiracocha): Inca church of monumental dimensions; 100 meters long, 26 meters wide and 14 meters high. The temple is divided into two naves and each nave has 11 giant columns.

La Raya: This is the intermediate point between Cusco and Puno and also the highest point (4335 meters above the sea level). The landscapes here are impressive and the typical Andean animals such as llama, alpaca and vicuna are common. It is also the geographical boundary between the two cultures: Quechua and Aymara.

Pukara: it is the most important and ancient ceremonial center of the altiplano. There are numerous interesting sculptures and tombs.

Day 8: the floating islands of Uros an Taquile

Visit to two floating islands of Lake Titicaca. The towns of the Uros islands were home of fishermen and hunters as well as many species of birds and remained isolated from most of the advanced civilizations. We will see their peculiar houses, the islands and meet the friendly locals. The people of Uros are descendants of one of the oldest tribes in South America.

Then we will continue to the island of Taquile. Upon arrival, we will have a possibility to enjoy the spectacular views of the Lake Titicaca.
