The Upper Douro Wine Route is known to be one of the largest and greatest wine regions around the world. The wine culture here goes back to ancient times and it is known that the Romans were producing wine on the banks of Douro river.
The region became famous because of it’s great wine business, but it was only from the XVIIth century when the Douro gained great fame because of its famous Port Wine.
Over 2000 years ago, history has been shaped on the slopes of the Douro river, in a unique vineyard landscape where we can find so much more than just a gift of nature: Port Wine is the fruit of a great creation thanks to man and nature.
Come, learn and get to discover the history of the men and women who made this region a unique landscape in the world.
Single day: Leaving towards Régua town centre, in the Alto Douro Wine Route – UNESCO World Heritage Site.
09h15 Meet up with a Ferreirinha - one of the great historical figures from Douro, for a short and quick visit to the region. We will travel there by bus, all the way to Covelinhas, as far as the Miradouro de S. Leonardo de Galafura gets - stopping to see and discover more about the landscape. We will head to the Quinta Seara D’Ordens - where we will enjoy a visit and wine-tasting experience. Return to Régua.
13h00 Lunch. Going to Caminhos Station (Régua).
15h30 Enjoy the historic Douro train to go to Tua, stopping at Pinhão. Travelling on the ancient Douro train is like experiencing a trip back in time. The train follows its way along the bank of Douro river, and along the trip we will get to see the 5 historic carriages that run the distance to Tua, on a unique journey back in time, marked by the beauty of this landscape, classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. On board, passengers are entertained by live music and typical songs from the region, as well as enjoying a sample of the famous Port Wine. Free time in Tua.
17h15 Return to Régua, arriving at 18:30h.
