"Boquerón del Estena" Route, Cabañeros National Park (Ciudad Real)
A trip of over 400 million years in only 3 hours and a little bit longer than 4 km.
We will enjoy the route following the channel of río Estena, an exceptional landscape where we can find a great amount of natural elements, being able to observe practically all the geological strata of the Primary Era.
We will cross the famous “Risco Tira Panes” and the quartzite Towers, remains of an old falla where the Chorrillo stream joints with río Estena. In the river stones you will easily see otter droppings and, in the water, minnows like the endemic jarabugo.
We can read three forest typologies in one same space: Mediterranean vegetation, riverside vegetation and northern trees like the yew tree or the birch tree.
This route and this natural space is considered as a Lugar de Interés Geológico (Geosite), and there you will have the chance to touch trilobites and appreciate the vestiges of the geological eras like the Ordovician.
The route will be completely guided, we will talk about the relation between the man and this environment and we will get to know the uses they gave to this vast quantity of vegetable species that live in this very special area.
