Peru and the National Park of Manu

In the south of Peru you can find an enormous jungle - the National Park of Manu. This protected area covers almost 2 million hectares which are inhabited by thousands of species of flora and fauna.

A 3 day tour to the Cloud Forest of Manu
Day 1: Cusco - the Cloud Forest (Paradise Lodge)
We will depart early in the morning from Cusco and will hike through the Andean landscapes composed of fertile valleys, high altitude pastures and communities of shepherds. Along the route you will encounter birds such as: caracara, puna ibis and the Andean flicker.
We will pass through the pre-Inca funerary towers of Lupaca before arriving at the colonial town of Paucartambo, the antique gateway to the forests of Manu. Here we will have time to visit the local church and photograph the historic Bridge of Charles V.
After leaving Paucartambo we will continue to the Acjanaco pass (3850 meters / 12,630 feet), the entrance to the Manu National Park with beautiful views of the Amazon basin far below. From here, the road will take us through the Andean grasslands and to the Cloud Forest. The local ecosystem is rich in flora and fauna: it is the habitat of the rooster of the rock, the quetzals with crest and dorados, the blue-crowned motmots, the gray-crowned mountain toucans and many species of butterflies, ferns and orchids.
We will spend the night in our cozy Paradise Lodge (1470 m/ 4821 feet), right in the heart of the Cloud Forest with lunch and dinner included. We will cover 181 km (113 miles) in approximately 6 to 8 hours.
Day 2: the Cloud Forest (Paradise Lodge)
After a night’s rest the adventure will continue with a breakfast before entering the woods that surround the lodge to observe the cock of the Peruvian rock (Rupicola peruvianus) to see how the males of the species perform their ritual of daily courtship.
The day will continue exploring the forest and visiting local farmers in their pineapple and coca leaf plantations. We will enjoy beautiful views and observe birds such as quetzals and motmots, green jays, paradisiacal tanagers, bay head tanagers, orange ear tanagers and gold tanagers.
Our bus will await us to leave towards the main attractions of the area. For those looking for more adventures we have an option trying the experience of mountain biking through the Cloud Forest and rafting (level II and III rapids) on the Kosñipata river. We will spend the night in our Paradise Lodge.

Day 3: the Cloud Forest - Cusco
This will be our last day in the forest. After a delicious breakfast you will have time to relax at the lodge or explore its surroundings before embarking on the private bus to continue our trip to Cusco.
We will continue our tour to Paucartambo, from where we will take the route that follows the course of the Quencomayo River to Colquepata and over the high pass of Apacheta (4100 meters / 13 448 feet). From here, the road descends towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where we will stop on the way to enjoy the landscape and experience the way of life of the local inhabitants.
After visiting the Inca archaeological site in Pisac, we will continue to Cusco, where you will be transferred to your hotel. The distance covered will be 192 km/120 miles (6 hours).
