The Calares of the World and the Sima


In the province of Albacete you will find sierras of great unique beauty. In the south, very close to the Natural Park of Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas (the largest protected area in Spain), the Mundo River (main tributary of the Segura River) is located. The birth of the river is located in the Natural Park of the Calares del Río Mundo and La Sima.


It is currently the spot which attracts many tourists to witness the great cataract of the birth and the deep cave of Los Chorros. In total, the area covers almost 20,000 hectares with a multitude of species of cataloged fauna and a magnificent flora with more than a hundred endemic plants.


Cueva de Los Chorros


Among its caves, the Cueva de Los Chorros is the result of the karstic evolution that has occurred in this beautiful natural landscape. Here formations of all kinds are present in a complex underground network that stands out as the longest cave system in the south of the peninsula.


To participate in this activity you are only required to be motivated since it is the most basic level visit to the Cueva de Los Chorros.


Walk through its complex subterranean passageways


The route, which will take approximately 4 hours, begins at the parking of Nacimiento. From there we will follow a route of a great beauty through a forest path. Here you need safety equipment, such as a harness and helmet since we will pass deep precipices exposed through their cornices.


Once at the mouth of the cave, we will enter the cave with helmets with lights and warm clothing; wading through an underground river flowing through its main underground passageways, its great halls and waterfalls. Along this journey you will learn about the formation of this great cave system.
