Almost 17% of its territory is protected and belongs to 158 natural areas. One of the largest protected natural areas is the Manu National Park in the southeast of the country.
Within almost two million hectares thousands of flora and fauna species coexist in this vast territory. The jungle dominates the landscape with leafy forests that open the way to the jungle of the Peruvian Amazon.

A 4 Day Tour
Day 1: Cusco - Paradise Lodge (bus and walks)
The tour begins at the city of Cusco from where you will travel through Andean landscapes of unparalleled beauty, deep valleys, highlands and rural communities. You will observe the birds of the highlands, such as the mountain caracara, Puna ibis and the Andean flicker, as well as the pre-Inca burial towers of Lupacas, before arriving at the picturesque colonial city of Paucartambo, gateway to the forests of Manu since pre-Hispanic times.
Here you will visit the church with its famous image of the Virgen del Carmen and the historic Carlos V Bridge. The route continues through the Acjanaco pass (3,850 meters / 12,630 feet), the official entrance to the Manu National Park. The road descends through the ecosystem of Andean grassland, rich in vegetation, before reaching the Cloud Forest in the afternoon. This area is rich in flora and fauna. Here lives the cock of the rock (national bird of Peru), golden quetzals and crest, blue crown motmot, mountain toucan, butterflies, ferns and orchids, to name a few!
After a wonderful day, you will spend your first night enjoying the comforts of Paradise Lodge (1,470 meters / 4,821 feet). The distance of the route will cover 181 km / 113 miles (6 to 8 hours, including 3 hours of walking).

Day 2: Paradise Lodge - Lodge (bus, excursions and boat trip)
After your first night at the Cloud Forest, you will enjoy a walk before breakfast to observe how the rooster of the rock performs its daily morning ritual, in which a group of males will put up an impressive show to attract females. Then you will return to the lodge to have a healthy breakfast before continuing the trip to Pillcopata from the port of Atalaya.
During this trip you will see plantations of yucca, papaya, pineapple and cocoa, and also local fauna such as squirrel monkeys and brown capuchins. And, of course, the birds including the Guanés, the kites and the black vultures. After the dinner a short walk awaits you during which we will offer you an opportunity to observe the nightlife along the trails that surround the local lodge of the Amazon rainforest where which you will spend the night.

Díay 3: Cuenca de la Amazonía - Clay Lick - Paradise Lodge (boat and bus)
One of the highlights of the trip to the Peruvian jungle is the morning visit to the parrot clay lick. You can see hundreds of parrots gathered in the clay deposit on the riverbank rich in minerals.
You will observe the Cuvier's toucans, the red and green macaws, the blue-headed parrots and other species as they feed on the minerals. Then you will return to the hostel for breakfast.
Your adventure will continue with several hours of hiking along the trails, returning to the lodge for a typical regional lunch. After lunch we will return to the river, where you will take a boat to Atalaya. Here you will be picked up by one of our cars which will bring you back to Paradise Lodge.

Day 4: Paradise Lodge - Cusco (bus)
This is our last day in the forest. You will enjoy another opportunity to observe how the rooster of the rock performs his daily morning ritual. After breakfast you will take a private bus for the trip back to Cusco, following the route of Paucartambo. From here the trip follows the course of the Qenqo Mayo River to Colquepata and the high pass at Apacheta (4,100 meters / 13,448 feet).
From the high pass the bus will descend to the famous Sacred Valley of Incas, with a quick stop on the way to enjoy the countryside with traditional Andean villages inhabited by weavers, llama herders and farmers. On the way you will have an opportunity to enjoy the spectacular views of the archaeological site of Pisac.
