Birding in Sierra de San Pedro (Badajoz, Extremadura)
La Sierra de San Pedro offers a combination of Mediterranean forest and bushes in Extremadura. Also, it is catalogued as Zona de Especial Protección de Aves (ZEPA) and Zona de Especial Conservación (ZEC).
A true natural paradise in Extremadura. We find the mountain flora, as well as richness in terms of rivers, riversides and the reservoir of Peña del Águila, habitat for a great variety of birds, amphibians and vertebrates. Species like the Iberian imperial eagle, an endangered bird; the black vulture, the Bonelli’s eagle, the golden eagle, the black stork and the owl are some of the important species in the crags of this protected area.
Next to the mountain range we find a vast area of plains where we can observe a great diversity of steppe bird species, big groups of bustards, ortegas, alcaravanes or little bustards that find in this area one of their last refuges.
We will visit the best areas in a 4x4 and on foot, to enjoy to the max everything Sierra de San Pedro has to offer us. We also lend binoculars and telescopes if you don’t have any.
